In The Dog House was established in 2016 by Jenni & Gordon to offer a peaceful and cosy alternative to kennels and an intimate day care environment.
We are completely home based in our large bungalow with enclosed dog friendly garden. We walk all our guests mostly on the beautiful beaches and countryside of East Lothian but have been known to take the dogs on days out anywhere between Bamburgh and St Andrews
We are fully licensed by East Lothian Council, checked and approved by Police Scotland and fully insured with specialist animal boarding insurance.
All four-legged guests stay in our family home along with our two dogs Lily and Poppy and our daughter.
Our passion for dogs extends to caring for yours as well. We provide accommodation for all of our guests within our home. We do not have kennels therefore
all dogs must be well-socialised and well-behaved as well as being neutered/spayed (unless young pups) and fully vaccinated.
We can’t accommodate dogs with separation anxiety so if your dog usually sleeps with you and would not be happy staying in our kitchen/family room then we cannot accommodate them.
We have had owners who have expected their dogs to just adapt and then gone on to bark and whine all night which is upsetting for the dogs and disruptive to us.
For obvious reasons, we will not under any circumstances accept dogs with any history of aggression towards other dogs ie, resource guarding, food aggression or reactivity on or off lead to dogs or people.
Life is much less stressful when our guests are well-behaved and calm indoors too.
We love our daily walks on the beach and so do our four-legged guests. As well as being a safety risk, there is nothing more stressful than an off-lead dog with little to no recall and nothing more uncomfortable than being dragged along by a dog that doesn’t walk nicely on the lead. Therefore we need dogs to have good recall and walk nicely on the lead.
