About In The Dog House
Established in 2016 by Jenni and Gordon, In The Dog House was created as a relaxed alternative to traditional kennels, offering a peaceful, homely and highly personalised experience for every guest.
Our spacious bungalow and large, secure dog-friendly garden provide plenty of space to relax, play and feel at home. Guests enjoy daily walks along the beautiful beaches and countryside of East Lothian, with occasional adventures further afield to places such as Bamburgh and St Andrews.
We are fully licensed by East Lothian Council and protected by specialist animal boarding insurance, giving owners added peace of mind.
Dogs staying with us become part of our family, sharing our home with our three much-loved dogs, Lily, Poppy and Basil, our daughter and the occasional foster pup. Our aim is simple: to provide a safe, warm and genuinely homely environment where dogs can settle in and enjoy their stay.
Take a peek at life at In The Dog House — from lazy days at home to beach walks, countryside adventures and plenty of four-legged fun along the way.

Excellent! Everything we were looking for from a dog boarding service. A real home from home experience with a friendly, caring family. Our dog, Amber, can be timid, but on our visit to meet Jenni it was clear that she felt very much at home, and we felt very happy leaving her in Jenni's capable care. So lucky to have found 'In The Dog House'

Our two labs settled very quickly with Jenni. Truly a loving caring environment for your dogs. A home from home and absolutely no concerns whilst you are away. I couldn't recommend them highly enough

Can't say how highly I recommend In The Dog House. My dog Ben loved being with this lovely family and their dogs. They made me feel so comfortable about leaving him with them. He will be back with them whenever I decide on another break. Thank you so much.

Our aim is for every guest to feel calm, settled and genuinely at home. All dogs stay within our home — we don’t use kennels — so we’re best suited to dogs who are:
To maintain a safe and peaceful environment, we’re unable to accommodate dogs with a history of aggression, resource guarding, food-related aggression or reactivity towards people or other dogs.
Our guests sleep together in our kitchen/family room rather than in bedrooms. For this reason, we’re unable to accommodate dogs with separation anxiety who need human company overnight, as this can be unsettling for both them and the other dogs sharing the space.
Daily beach and countryside walks are a big part of life here. Dogs therefore need to be manageable on the lead and have reliable recall where off-lead exercise is appropriate. Strong pulling or uncontrolled off-lead behaviour isn’t suitable for our group walks.
Please get in touch for a friendly chat. We’re always happy to give honest guidance and, if we think your dog would be happier in a different type of boarding environment, we can recommend excellent local facilities.
