When you leave your dog in someone else’s care, you want to know they’ll be treated as they are at home — with kindness, comfort and genuine affection.

You want them to feel settled and secure. You want them to be safe. And, above all, you want them to be loved.

That’s exactly what we want for our own dogs, and it’s the standard of care we provide for yours.

Before establishing In The Dog House, I spent 12 years working in nursing followed by more than 20 years in policing. Both careers taught me the importance of responsibility, attention to detail and remaining calm when it matters.

I’m also a certified Canine First Responder, trained to recognise and respond to canine emergencies should the need ever arise.

No two dogs are the same. We take time to get to know each guest’s personality, routine and individual needs, whether that means quiet time, extra cuddles, a familiar bedtime routine or simply their favourite spot on the sofa.

Our guests quickly become part of the family, and owners receive regular updates throughout their stay so they can see for themselves what their dog has been getting up to.

In The Dog House is fully licensed by East Lothian Council and protected by specialist animal boarding insurance.

Our home and boarding arrangements are subject to the checks and inspections required as part of the licensing process, providing owners with the reassurance that we operate within the standards required of a professional home-boarding business.

Our licensing and insurance certificates are available to view on request, and we actively encourage owners to ask to see them. We recommend asking the same of any boarding provider you consider — a reputable, professional business should always be happy to provide evidence that it is properly licensed and insured.

Above all, we understand just how much trust it takes to leave a much-loved member of your family in someone else’s care. It’s a responsibility we never take for granted.
